Kitchen Floor Tile Designs | Mosaic Kitchen Tiles

Countless kitchen floor tile designs can bring your space to the next level. We started off wanting to do an all-inclusive blog covering the dos and don’ts of different styles, patterns, and customizations you can do with tile in your kitchen. As you might guess, this turned into a rather lengthy blog. So, we pivoted and decided we’re going to make it a series of blogs. To kick it off, we’re going to focus on mosaic kitchen tiles and fill you in on a story that makes us both laugh and grimace.

Mosaic Kitchen Tiles

A few years back, we had an ambitious salesperson who happened to dabble in graphic design. Typically, this came in handy. However, it was the opposite of useful when we sent her out to quote a mosaic kitchen tile installation. The quote was for 1″ x 1″ hexagon mosaic tile, and the client wanted to do a unique pattern with three different colors. Graphic design, cute little tiles, patterns, colors – it was like a kid in a candy shop.

For those of you who don’t know, mosaic tiles are typically sold in sheets. They come preassembled on mesh to make the tiny pieces more manageable to work with. When we showed our salesperson this, the lightbulb went off, then the brief flicker of disappointment, and finally the realization that they had to tell the client that their design concept wasn’t possible with the budget.

Mosaic Kitchen Tiles: NOT To Do

It is absolutely possible to do just about any tile pattern. The contingency is that additional planning and labor are involved. If the budget is limited, we recommend not getting your heart set on an intricate, unique mosaic floor pattern.

Mosaic Kitchen Tiles: To Do

Floorscapes recommends visiting a local flooring showroom or exploring tile manufacturer websites like Daltile. Explore the pre-existing patterns and find what catches your eye. From porcelain and ceramic mosaic to natural stone and glass coupled with the infinite color choices, it’d be hard to find a pattern you don’t like.
